A Price on Independence

Many people who suffer from a disability or ill health have little choice when it comes to one of the most important things in their life – their care. Due to high costs many people are forced into the situation of living in a home or hospital where they can receive twenty four hour care and while this arrangement is suitable for some people, it can be frustrating for others.

Many people, given the choice, would instead opt for live in care which gives them a much higher level of independence, although not everyone is able to live this way either due to the costs involved or their type of illness.

Having live in care can really allow the person to live a much fuller life, living in their own home and with their own things around them but having a nurse or helper to be there for the tasks that they need help with.

This is particularly suitable for people who do not need around the clock medical care, in which case a live in home might provide a more suitable level of medical expertise, but most people would agree that a live in carer affords the patient a better quality of life in some cases.

It really depends on the person himself and whether they prefer to live alone, with the help of a carer, or stay in a home which has in house medical facilities, but the decision should not be made without taking the patient's wishes into account.
